    POOLE, Donald Carleton
    Born September 26, 1942, in Pasadena, CA to loving parents Carroll Henry Poole and Bernice Lyla Poole, died suddenly April 29, 2009 in Sacramento, CA at age 66. Don attended John Muir High School in Pasadena, Pasadena Junior College, the University of California at Berkeley and Hastings College of the Law before earning a Masters Degree in Taxation from New York University. Don was a member of the State Bar of California and specialized in tax, estate planning and charitable giving for the Sacramento law firm of McDonough Holland & Allen PC for the last 38 years. Don was recently honored by the State Bar of California for 30 years as a specialist in Taxation Law and was a long-time member of the Sacramento Estate Planning Council. Esteemed by his colleagues, he was glad his work afforded him the opportunity to be involved in a variety of charitable and philanthropic organizations, including the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, the Crocker Art Museum Foundation, the Sutter Heritage Advisors, the Cal Grid Club, the Salvation Army, the University of California, as well as helping other fortunate souls give back to the community. Don was a member of the Sutter Club, Del Paso Country Club and the Northern California Golf Association, and loved golf, good wine, great friends, and travel. Don leaves behind his loving wife, Janet Anne Poole; beloved daughter, Erika Michele Higbee, and son-in-law, Thomas W. Higbee, of Petaluma; beloved son, Kevin Matthew Poole, of Sacramento; nieces, Annelisa Hedgecock of Alameda and Sharon Blair of Los Angeles; nephews, Neil Hedgecock of Oakland and Joe Hedgecock of Santa Cruz; and sisters-in law Carolyn Hedgecock of Fremont and Eileen Poole of Los Angeles. Don was preceded in death by his loving parents; his brother, Richard E. Poole; his sister, Joyce Waterman; and his brother-in-law, Lewis F. Hedgecock. Donations in Don’s memory may be made to the Sacramento Region Community Foundation (in memory of Donald C. Poole), 740 University Ave., Suite 110, Sacramento, CA 95825. A public memorial celebrating Don’s life will be held at Del Paso Country Club, 3333 Marconi Ave., Sacramento at 1 PM Saturday, May 9th with reception at 2 PM.
